Derek represents clients in the full range of criminal offences from the statutory investigating authorities - the police, ICAC, Immigration Department and Customs & Excise Department. He regularly appears as a solicitor advocate in the Magistrates Court and in the District Court for trial as well as other ancillary criminal law applications. He has also instructed and briefed the leading barristers in Hong Kong for large and complex matters in the Court of First Instance and for appeals. His substantial skills are his advocacy and communications. Derek quickly establishes a rapport with his clients and articulates advice in a clear and precise manner.
Experience:
After completing his legal education in the UK (Manchester University) and having previously worked in non-legal environments in the UK, USA and Japan, Derek returned to Hong Kong, his place of birth, to take up a training contract with Haldanes in late 1997. He was admitted as a solicitor in January 2000 and immediately specialised in criminal defence
