Haldanes attended the IBA Law Students’ Committee Mid-Year Conference
On 16th and 17th July 2016, legal practitioners, academics and students from all around the world gathered at the University of Hong Kong for the International Bar Association (IBA) Law Students’ Committee Mid-Year Conference, which was held for the very first time in Asia and Hong Kong. The theme of this 2-day forum was “Financial and Corporate Law in Asia”, covering the hottest legal topics in recent years including regulatory reform in the post-crisis global economy, the Panama Papers and tax avoidance, the future of competition law in Hong Kong, international arbitration, corporate social responsibility and Islamic finance.
As part of our commitment to nurture young talents in the legal profession, Haldanes sent 10 of our paralegals, trainees and associates to attend the conference and to interact with delegates from various jurisdictions. As a National Representative for the IBA Young Lawyers’ Committee, our partner Felix Ng was invited to deliver a welcome address at the opening ceremony, followed by panels and workshops led by prominent academics and practitioners from the Hong Kong Competition Commission, China Light & Power Group, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, WongPartnership (Singapore), Latham & Watkins (Dubai), Asia Bar Review Limited, University of Melbourne and College of William & Mary (Virginia, USA) etc.
After the conference, Felix Ng had a meeting with Dr. Mark Ellis, Executive Director of the IBA to discuss future events for our younger generations.
