The opening ceremony of “Radiance of the Snowlands: The Art Exhibition of Zhao Zhijing” took place at the Thong Taktshang Lhakhang in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, on October 26, 2026. The prestigious event was graced by the Queen Mother of Bhutan, who officiated as the guest of honor, alongside royal princesses, Supreme Rinpoches, government ministers, and distinguished cultural leaders.
Co-organized by the Central Monastic Body of Bhutan and the China International Ink Painting Society, and hosted by the Realm Art Gallery, the exhibition features over twenty exquisite works by renowned Hong Kong artist, Hong Kong Arts Development Council member, and China International Ink Painting Society Chairman Zhao Zhijing. Bridging traditional Chinese ink painting and contemporary artistic expression, the works embody Chinese cultural philosophies of harmony, compassion, and mutual learning—ideals that resonate deeply with Bhutan’s Buddhist heritage and emphasis on spiritual well-being.
During the exhibition, the Queen Mother expressed deep appreciation for Zhao’s horse-themed ink paintings and traditional flora-and-fauna works, later personally writing a blessing for the exhibition to foster enduring cultural friendship between Hong Kong and Bhutan.

Hong Kong’s Autumn Asian Art Week kicked off an intensive three-day auction and exhibition run from October 28 to 30, 2026, featuring three major international auction houses—Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Bonhams. Spanning 3,000 years of Chinese and Asian art history, the blockbuster season presents everything from early Shang dynasty bronzes and imperial treasures to Gandharan stone sculptures and Himalayan gilt-bronze Buddhist art.
The season’s standout highlight is Sotheby’s flagship “Vessels of Antiquity” (《萬古之幽》) sale, which features a rare Shang dynasty ritual bronze zun known as the “Xi Zun” (隰尊). Estimated at HK$15 to 30 million and standing 26.3 centimeters tall, the vessel bears a 36-character inscription detailing a royal “wine banquet” hosted jointly by the infamous King Zhou of Shang and his favorite consort Daji. Dated by scholars to approximately June 22, 1051 BC—just five years before the fall of the Shang dynasty at the Battle of Muye—the artifact serves as a 3,000-year-old royal party record that vividly echoes historical accounts in Sima Qian’s Records of the Grand Historian.
Meanwhile, Christie’s marks its 40th anniversary in Asia with a special commemorative exhibition recreating key highlights from the legendary 1935–36 London Royal Academy International Exhibition of Chinese Art, alongside high-profile sales like a Qing Qianlong gold-threaded jewel-inlaid ewer. Bonhams anchors its sales with single-owner thematic collections highlighting Buddhist sculptures, cloisonné, and carved lacquer, reinforcing Hong Kong’s unrivaled status as the global epicenter for high-end Asian art collecting.
