Astra Foundation–YDBA partnered again with Sparks Fashion Academy (SFA) to stage the 20th edition of Fashion Nation on 20 September at Senayan City in Jakarta under the theme “The Future Nostalgic.” Five fashion MSMEs under the foundation’s guidance: Soloputri, Alendra, Copa de Flores, Conny’s Creation and Kelow, presented contemporary ready-to-wear collections that incorporate traditional weaving techniques from Sikka Regency in East Nusa Tenggara.

Before the runway show, the organisers held a small discussion sharing the multi-year mentoring journey. The exhibited collections result from two years of upstream-to-downstream support for weaving MSMEs in one of Astra’s “prosperous villages,” covering technical skill upgrading, product standardisation, business management and market-channel development to meet industry requirements on quality, cost and delivery.

Rahmat Samulo, chairman of Astra Foundation YDBA, emphasised that traditional textiles should be preserved as cultural heritage while also being developed as modern products that drive local economic growth. Through collaboration with SFA, designers transform the woven fabrics into garments that retain cultural identity while meeting contemporary fashion standards.

2026 marks the third year of cooperation between Astra Foundation YDBA and SFA. The foundation supports around 100 fashion MSMEs annually, with about 25 participating in the SFA programme across basic, intermediate and professional levels. Each year five enterprises gain the opportunity to present at Fashion Nation, while others gain practical experience that can be applied to their own businesses.

Model Qiqi (琦琦) made a special appearance at London Fashion Week to support long-time friend Hu Bing (胡兵)’s HUBING SELECTS fashion show. On the day she wore a pure-white tailored suit paired with sleek black leather gloves; the top incorporated a flowing cape-style design that projected a strong, modern presence on the runway.

Qiqi explained that the event holds particular meaning because Hu Bing has long worked to help Chinese young designers reach international platforms. This year marks the tenth anniversary of that effort, and she accepted his personal invitation to participate, describing the opportunity to contribute to Chinese designers’ global visibility as especially worthwhile.

Hu Bing, serving as a Global Ambassador of London Fashion Week and an ambassador of the British Fashion Council, presented the latest HUBING SELECTS collection under the theme “Urban Grace: Leather & Light.” The show continues his platform’s focus on elevating Chinese design and craftsmanship on the international stage.

The appearance of established Chinese models such as Qiqi alongside the collection underscores the ongoing effort to bring Chinese creative talent and professional networks into the official London Fashion Week calendar, strengthening cross-cultural fashion exchange.

On 19 September, the 2026 Guangdong Fashion Designers Carnival (廣東服裝設計師嘉年華) was held at Xiangjiang No.1 (香江1號) as a major highlight of Guangdong Fashion Week – Autumn. The event featured four main segments: “Design Talk,” joint brand new-collection runways, a Fashion Night and themed salons, presenting the diversity of Guangdong’s fashion talent and Chinese original design.

Guangdong Fashion Designers Association (廣東省服裝設計師協會) launched a new cultural IP, “Design Talk,” inviting around 100 guests from fashion design, contemporary art, architecture, music and related creative fields to discuss creation, aesthetics, culture and industry trends. Association vice-president Wang Jia (王珈) noted that design is not only visual presentation but also a deep cultural dialogue, and that the platform aims to connect art, life and industry.

Three local brands, TUYUE (涂月), Jinhui Qipao (金慧旗袍) and Mantuo Xin (曼陀心), jointly presented new collections at Xiangjiang No.1, offering contrasting expressions that ranged from contemporary poetic minimalism to innovative qipao (旗袍) interpretations and modern applications of Xiangyunsha (gambiered Guangdong silk) (香雲紗). The Fashion Night later brought the atmosphere to a climax with certificate presentations recognising cross-border designer partners of Xiangjiang No.1.

Three themed salons extended the experience into more intimate settings, exploring fragrance trends, intangible-heritage bead embroidery and Eastern styling aesthetics. Together the programmes positioned the carnival as both a gathering for designers and a longer-term platform linking Chinese original design with lifestyle and cultural expression.

Veteran Hong Kong actress Angie Chiu (趙雅芝) appeared as a special guest supermodel at Beijing Fashion Week, walking the closing segment of designer Zhang Kejia (張珂嘉)’s “Intangible Heritage Haute Couture” show titled “Let the World See Chinese Beauty (讓世界看見中國美).” It marked her first time on a haute-couture runway and generated strong public response.

Intangible-heritage haute couture combines traditional Chinese folk handicrafts and historical weaving techniques with contemporary high-fashion design. Chiu wore three custom looks that incorporated northern Shaanxi paper-cutting motifs (剪紙入衣), a peony-inspired “National Beauty” ensemble (國色天香), and an elaborate phoenix-and-peony formal gown (有鳳儀棠).

Designer Zhang Kejia praised her performance on social media, comparing her enduring elegance to the peony that continues to bloom regardless of criticism, and described the show as a “love letter of Chinese beauty” to the world. The appearance highlighted both the actress’s lasting stage presence and the growing visibility of Chinese intangible-heritage craftsmanship within contemporary fashion presentations.
