Hong Kong’s men’s handball team will benefit from upgraded training facilities at Kai Tak Sports Park, featuring the addition of dedicated handball court lines as a result of its historic semifinal run at the National Games.

The Hong Kong China Handball Association announced these improvements on Sunday. The initiative, coordinated with the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and Kai Tak Sports Park, entails delineating courts on existing hard-surface areas and providing preferential rental terms for practice sessions.

Additionally, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department plans to expand the team’s allocated training slots at indoor venues in Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre and Siu Lun Sports Centre, effective January 2026. The department is also evaluating opportunities to utilize further sports centers for team practices

Hong Kong is sending its biggest-ever Winter Olympics team to Milano Cortina, including four athletes across alpine skiing and short-track speed skating. Adrian Yung returns for a second Games, while Eloise King, Darren Kwok and Joey Lam will make their Olympic debuts, building on experience gained at last year’s Asian Winter Games in Harbin.

The skiers will race in the slalom disciplines (Yung also in giant slalom), and the skaters will contest the 1,000m/1,500m events, with Kwok expected to be the first Hong Kong athlete in action when the men’s 1,000m takes place on 10 February. Yung described the lead-up as mentally tough since Beijing 2022, saying he had considered quitting but pushed through to qualify again.

Several personal storylines run through the squad. King only secured her Olympic spot in mid-January around her 21st birthday and said the achievement still feels unreal, while also noting she expects steeper, icier conditions and will adjust tactics on race day. In short track, Lam and Kwok said recent training in South Korea under six-time Olympic champion Viktor Ahn has helped their conditioning and tactics, though Lam is managing an ankle sprain as she aims to perform under pressure.

Williams have revealed the new livery for their 2026 Formula 1 challenger, the FW48, unveiling it at the team’s Grove headquarters in front of their 1,200-strong workforce alongside Team Principal James Vowles and drivers Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon.

The design’s lead colour is a vibrant gloss blue, contrasted by a sweeping black section running from the chassis side toward the rear of the car. It also includes a red-and-white keyline that nods to championship-winning Williams cars such as Nigel Mansell’s FW14B and Damon Hill’s FW18 (which marks its 30th anniversary this year), with the biggest visual change being added white across the sidepod and both wings.

The car carries new sponsors, including Barclays, and Vowles framed 2026 as “the next step” in Williams’ push back toward the front in what he called a new era for the sport. The team missed the Barcelona shakedown due to production delays but says the FW48 has passed mandatory crash tests and will be ready for official pre-season testing in Bahrain starting 11 February, after Williams finished fifth in the 2025 Teams’ Championship.

Hong Kong coach Manuel Losada said the upcoming Hong Kong Stadium match against K League side FC Seoul will be used to blood younger players, as he starts planning for the national team’s next two to three years and wants emerging talent to test themselves against high-level opposition. He stressed that even if he is not in charge beyond March, he is focused on creating opportunities for players coming through to compete at a higher standard.

Losada, appointed after Ashley Westwood’s departure in December, will take charge in his first competitive fixture when Hong Kong travels to India for an AFC Asian Cup qualifier on 31 March 2026. Hong Kong FA president Timothy Fok said another friendly in the week before that trip is already planned, likely outside Hong Kong, but details will be announced later so as not to distract from the Seoul match.

Fok also kept plans for summer exhibition games under wraps, while reiterating the association’s commitment to bringing international-standard matches to Hong Kong despite scheduling complications from the World Cup year. He said this year’s Lunar New Year Cup will drop the “legends” format in favour of new teams and fan experiences and noted the Senior Shield final has been moved earlier to fit the wider programme and support tourism promotion. Tickets for the LNY Cup had gone on sale via Ticketflap from 3pm Tuesday, with pricing tiers and a family package available.
