Brian Fung

Brian advises on a wide range of criminal defence cases, including financial crimes, corruption and bribery, dishonesty offences, drug-related matters and national security law.  He also has ample experience handling investigations and prosecutions by various authorities including the Hong Kong Police Force, the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC), the Immigration Department, the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Brian has developed a particular focus of his practice in securities and regulatory matters.  He has represented both corporate and individual clients in defending regulatory investigations and prosecutions by authorities such as the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (HKEX) and the Sales of First-hand Residential Properties Authority (SRPA).

In addition, Brian has been heavily involved in handling various types of competition law matters from the phase of investigation stage by the Competition Commission up to court proceedings at the Competition Tribunal, including leniency applications, settlement negotiations and court appearances.  He also prepared compliance training sessions for corporate clients to advise on competition law.    

Brian joined Haldanes as a trainee solicitor in 2022 and qualified as a solicitor of Hong Kong in 2024.  Brian completed a double bachelor’s degree programme of Laws and Literary Studies at the University of Hong Kong, ranking first in class in his final year.  Brian further obtained his Postgraduate Certificate in Laws in the same institution.  Before commencing his legal career, Brian was a management trainee at the commercial banking division of a prestigious local bank, in which he was equipped with business acumen and financial knowledge on a broad spectrum of financial and investment products as well as the relevant regulatory requirements. He speaks fluent Cantonese, English and Mandarin.
