Yu Kew Leung

With more than 20 years of experience as a civil litigator, Yu Kew provides professional advice and representation to both local and overseas clients, including listed and multi-national companies and their directors and high-net-worth individuals. His primary litigation focus is on commercial disputes (including complex commercial claims, shareholders’ disputes and matters requiring urgent applications for injunctive relief) and probate disputes.

Yu Kew also heads the firm’s Wills and Probate practice and regularly advises clients on Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney and Advance Medical Directives as well as complex non-contentious probate applications and estates administration.  Yu Kew’s exceptional capability in cross-border matters is highly regarded by international clients, with an overseas executrix noting that he “made a complicated cross-border transaction feel completely seamless” and another “recall[ing] with gratitude the wonderful representation and assistance that [she] received”.  

Yu Kew has handled a diverse contentious portfolio involving fraud claims, property, tenancy and building management disputes, personal injury claims, bankruptcy and company winding-up proceedings, judicial review applications and professional disciplinary proceedings.  His recent notable experience includes:

• a very substantial breach of contract claim involving parallel proceedings in Hong Kong and Mainland China,
• an application for judicial review on the constitutionality of the Organised and Serious Crimes Ordinance,
• a complex shareholders’ dispute involving four companies and six separate sets of proceedings,
• the defence of a fraud claim by multiple plaintiffs alleging a fraudulent scheme to solicit pre-IPO investments through fraudulent misrepresentations; and
• a high-profile debt claim involving the application of the Money Lenders Ordinance which is pending appeal to the Court of Final Appeal.

In addition, Yu Kew practises as a Notary Public and assists clients on the notarisation, authentication and legalisation of documents for use in various overseas jurisdictions.
