Writs and Riffs: Haldanes Litigation Partner Paul Lui Featured in Hong Kong Law Society magazine

From the courtroom to the stage, Haldanes partner Paul Lui balances a high-stakes litigation practice with a lifelong passion for playing the electric guitar. He was recently featured in the Lawyers at Leisure column of the Hong Kong Lawyer, Hong Kong Law Society’s official magazine.
The Hong Kong Lawyer magazine is a monthly magazine, and Paul was featured in the Lawyers at Leisure column – a section of the magazine which dives into personal stories and interests of lawyers practising in Hong Kong.
A seasoned commercial litigator with nearly 30 years of experience, Paul reflects on how his musical background — specifically playing the electric guitar — has complemented his demanding legal career.
From school talent shows to performing with TLF, The Law Society of Hong Kong’s band, music has been Paul’s constant companion. He regularly plays with fellow legal professionals, adding energy and camaraderie to the community.
Paul says, whenever he plays the guitar, it offers him a space where “the noise of the world simply went quiet”. He also highlights how playing guitar has sharpened his litigation skills — listening, resilience, and teamwork.
