EGT, which is a gaming technology company that develops slot machines, electronic table games and digital casino solutions for international markets, has announced its participation in SiGMA Asia 2026 in Manila.  Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (“PAGCOR”), which is the Philippine government regulator for the gaming industry, used the SiGMA Asia Summit 2026 in Pasay City to press the case for stronger responsible gaming measures. The chairman and chief executive Alejandro Tengco urged the industry to match innovation with accountability.

Addressing regulators, operators, investors and technology providers from across the Asia Pacific, Tengco said the sector must do more to protect players as digital gaming expands. He said industry growth should remain tied to social responsibility and public welfare, not commercial success alone.

As part of that push, Tengco highlighted PAGCOR’s recently launched National Problem Gambling Helpline, a 24 hour service created with the nonprofit Seagulls Flock Organization. The helpline offers confidential counseling, intervention and support for individuals and families affected by gambling related harm.

Tengco said the initiative comes at a critical point for the market. The Philippines’ gross gaming revenue rose to nearly P400 billion in 2025, helped by strong electronic gaming performance. But first quarter figures for 2026 showed a clear slowdown, with total revenue falling 15.87 percent year on year to P87.60 billion. Electronic gaming posted a sharper decline, while licensed casinos generated P44.52 billion and accounted for just over half of total industry revenue.

For Tengco, the figures underscored a broader point: long term success will depend less on rapid growth than on public trust, effective regulation and responsible industry conduct.

Altenar, which is an iGaming software provider that supplies sportsbook technology and betting solutions to licensed gambling operators, is stepping up its expansion in Asia, with the Philippines emerging as a key market in its regional growth strategy. In an interview, Vagelis Bairlis, the company’s head of sales operations, said the regulated Philippine market offered the right mix of scale, momentum and regulatory clarity for Altenar’s next phase of development.

The company has entered the market through a partnership with ArenaPlus, which is a licensed online sportsbook in the Philippines operated by DigiPlus Interactive, a move Bairlis said allows Altenar to establish a compliant and credible foothold at the top end of the sector. He described the Philippines as one of the fastest growing regulated iGaming markets globally, supported by a framework that offers long term stability.

A central part of Altenar’s strategy is localisation. Bairlis said the company identified the Philippines as a mobile first, sports focused market where users expect fast and highly tailored experiences. In response, Altenar adapted its sportsbook interface to prioritize basketball, including strong coverage of the NBA, the Philippine Basketball Association (“PBA”) and other local leagues.

The company has also focused on features designed for local betting habits, such as enhanced PBA player props and end game markets. As live betting demand rises across Asia, Altenar said it has invested in faster data feeds, mobile optimized features and real time updates to meet the expectations of Filipino bettors and strengthen its position in Southeast Asia.

Illegal offshore gambling operators are increasingly using social media to lure young people in Hong Kong, prompting warnings from lawmakers and support groups that deceptive online campaigns are driving vulnerable users into serious debt.

Concern is growing ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when illegal betting networks are expected to intensify efforts to reach football fans across Asia. According to reports, many operators rely on so called flash advertising, using temporary accounts on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to promote gambling under the guise of investment tips, lifestyle content, health advice or free entertainment. Once flagged, the accounts disappear and are quickly replaced.

Support groups and local reports have highlighted the human cost. In one case, a family said their son in his early twenties built up debts through illegal baccarat, football and horse racing bets, forcing his parents to use savings to repay creditors before bankruptcy became unavoidable. Another case involved a 29 year old man who amassed HK$3 million in debt through illegal basketball betting before seeking counseling and bankruptcy protection.

The problem is also spreading on university campuses, where students looking for free sports streams are often exposed to betting promotions. Social workers say gambling related help requests among younger users have risen sharply, fueling calls for tighter oversight of digital platforms, online influencers and illegal gambling content.
