Edison Chen recently shared his experiences of becoming a father in an interview. When his partner, Qin Shupei, revealed her pregnancy in 2016, Chen left the decision to her, supporting her choice to keep the baby. Following their daughter’s birth, the couple took a break from work to focus on parenting, with Chen immersing himself in pregnancy-related literature to better understand the process.

Chen, who had limited time with his own father, emphasized the importance of spending quality time with his daughter rather than providing material wealth. Despite his busy schedule, he ensures he is present for important moments like vaccinations. He also prefers his daughter to engage with physical books instead of electronic devices and avoids video calls when traveling, opting for more traditional forms of communication.

Chen expressed his desire for his daughter to grow up freely and become her own person, with him acting as a supportive coach. He admitted that fatherhood has made him more conscious of aging and mortality, often joking with his daughter about needing her help in the future. This new phase of life has made him feel older, but also more reflective and dedicated to his role as a father.

Tencent Music Entertainment (TME) has introduced a groundbreaking feature that allows musicians to generate AI tracks and directly upload them to the QQ Music streaming app. This innovation leverages the DeepSeek AI platform, which has significantly reduced the costs and computational resources needed for advanced AI systems. Musicians can now use AI-powered tools to create original songs, complete with lyrics and vocals, and publish them with a single click.

The new AI tools, including the AI Songwriter and AI Tone Magician, are part of TME’s broader strategy to enhance user-generated content. These tools enable musicians to input creative ideas or custom lyrics, which the AI then transforms into fully produced tracks. TME’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report highlights the company’s commitment to integrating AI across various aspects of music creation, from sound optimization to audio fidelity.

TME’s initiative aims to democratize music production, making it accessible to a wider audience. By supporting independent artists through the Tencent Musician Platform, TME has already attracted 580,000 indie acts. This move not only enriches the creative landscape but also positions QQ Music as a leader in AI-driven music innovation.

Social media was abuzz today after AI-generated photos surfaced, seemingly showing Nicholas Tse, Edison Chen, and Cecilia Cheung together at Lan Kwai Fong and Victoria Harbour. The realistic quality of the images, intentionally blurred to appear more convincing, impressed many netizens. Despite the apparent youthfulness of Edison Chen in the photos, they were deemed highly believable by viewers.

The timing of these photos coincided with the launch of Nicholas Tse’s four-day concert series, “Evolution Nic Live,” at Kai Tak Sports Park. Running from 24 to 27 April, the concert is a highly anticipated event for fans of the Hong Kong singer and actor. However, in reality, the three celebrities would not be seen together, as Tse is currently in a relationship with Faye Wong. Cecilia Cheung, Tse’s ex-wife and mother to their two sons, has long been linked to Edison Chen due to a 2008 scandal involving explicit photos.

Cecilia Cheung, a prominent Hong Kong actress and C-pop singer, was previously married to Nicholas Tse and was the daughter-in-law of legendary Hong Kong actors Patrick Tse and Deborah Lee. While the AI-generated images amused many, they also sparked discussions about the trio’s complicated history, highlighting the enduring public interest in their personal lives.

Imax CEO Rich Gelfond addressed concerns about the impact of the U.S.-China trade war on Hollywood films during a recent earnings call. He emphasized that the fundamentals of Imax’s business remain strong despite China’s announcement to moderately limit Hollywood film imports in response to U.S. tariffs. Gelfond reassured stakeholders that these restrictions would likely target films with limited box office potential, which are not central to Imax’s revenue.

Gelfond highlighted Imax’s deep-rooted relationships in China, cultivated over 30 years, and expressed confidence that the moderate reduction in Hollywood imports would not significantly affect Imax’s business. He noted that major films, such as Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” and Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch,” are still expected to be released in China. Gelfond also mentioned that any reductions would have minimal financial impact on Imax’s core offerings.

Despite the ongoing trade tensions and high tariffs on Chinese goods, Gelfond does not foresee any backlash from Chinese consumers, who view Imax as a prestigious local brand. He reiterated that Imax’s strong market presence and strategic partnerships in China would help mitigate any potential risks from the trade war.

Hong Kong’s Consumer Council received 114 complaints from concertgoers about obstructed views at Coldplay’s recent shows at Kai Tak Stadium. The complaints were divided into two groups: those who were unaware of the obstructions when purchasing their tickets and felt misled, and those who knew about the obstructions but found them worse than expected upon arrival. Ticket prices for the affected seats were typically HK$2,099 (US$270) per person.

Coldplay performed four shows between 8 and 12 April, attracting around 200,000 attendees. Following the first show, many fans took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the seating arrangements. The Consumer Council has been in contact with the ticketing platform and the event organizer to address the complaints and discuss solutions. The council emphasized the need for greater transparency from concert organizers regarding seating arrangements and the extent of any obstructions.

Cityline, the ticketing platform, acknowledged two complaints and confirmed that customers were informed of the blocked views when purchasing their tickets. They have reached out to the complainants to explain the situation and offered further assistance if needed. The Consumer Council will continue to handle the cases according to its procedures and keep complainants updated on the progress and outcomes.

Renowned Hong Kong singer Ronald Cheng and his wife Sammie Yu are finalizing their divorce after 13 years of marriage. Cheng was recently seen at the Wan Chai Family Court addressing issues related to their separation and custody of their two children. Reports indicate that Cheng has offered HK$8,000 per child in monthly support, which Yu finds insufficient given the high costs of their children’s education and extracurricular activities.

Speculation about their separation began earlier this year, with Yu’s 45th birthday post in March hinting at a new chapter in her life. The couple’s disagreements over financial arrangements have led to a court battle, with Yu expressing frustration over the inadequacy of Cheng’s proposed support. Cheng’s reluctance to increase the support is reportedly influenced by his father’s insistence on adhering to the family’s financial arrangements.

In addition to financial disputes, unresolved tensions related to Cheng’s professional relationship with his former manager, Ho Hing-sheung, have contributed to the couple’s separation. Despite their earlier years of happiness, these issues have now taken center stage in their divorce proceedings, marking a significant shift in their once loving family dynamic.

Chinese competitive eater Deng Chenen has faced criticism after sharing a video of his visit to a Tokyo buffet, where he consumed large quantities of expensive seafood. Known for his massive appetite and slow eating style, Deng loaded up on premium items like salmon, king crabs, shrimp, Wagyu beef, and cheesecake, claiming he worked out for eight hours to “eat to the fullest.” His behavior, including dismissing concerns from other diners and using derogatory terms for Japanese people, sparked outrage among netizens who described his actions as disrespectful.

Deng’s girlfriend, Wu Ting, also a competitive eater, accompanied him on the trip. Despite the buffet’s cost of 12,000 yen (US$85) per person, Deng’s consumption was estimated to be worth between 50,000 to 80,000 yen (US$350 to US$550). The video, which received over 350,000 likes, showed Deng skewering dozens of pieces of salmon and filling his plate with seafood, leading to complaints from other diners and staff about his excessive eating and potential food wastage.

The backlash extended to social media, where Chinese viewers criticized Deng’s behavior as selfish and embarrassing for Chinese tourists. A nutritionist warned that binge eating can lead to serious health issues, emphasizing that competitive eating is an extreme form of self-harm rather than a talent. Deng has yet to respond to the negative comments online.
