Haldanes delivers a public lecture on AI laws at HKU

In April, our Partner, Anthony Leung, delivered a public lecture hosted by the Law Association, Hong Kong University Students’ Union, exploring one of the most pressing questions of our time: As AI reshapes our world, is personal privacy still protected?

The public lecture on AI laws

Over 90 minutes, Anthony walked attendees through:

  • Real-world AI risks — deepfakes, identity theft, fraud, and data mining
  • Gaps in Hong Kong’s legal framework
  • How the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance applies to AI systems
  • Comparisons with the EU AI Act and GDPR
  • Practical self-protection tips in the age of generative AI
