On Your Marks: Haldanes Partner Timothy Wan Featured in Hong Kong Lawyer Magazine

From the courtroom to the track, Haldanes partner Timothy Wan balances a demanding criminal litigation practice with a lifelong passion for sprinting. He was recently featured in the “Lawyers at Leisure” column of Hong Kong Lawyer, the official magazine of the Law Society of Hong Kong.
After a hiatus that stretched back to his university years, Timothy has returned to the track, training every week under Mr. Pat Kwok Wai — the same coach who first spotted his talent as a teenager and who represented Hong Kong in the men’s 200-metre sprint at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
His early career was impressive. He represented Hong Kong at the All China Youth Athletic Championship and the 11th Asian Junior Athletics Championship in 2004, and was part of the relay team that broke both the Hong Kong Junior and Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association Junior Records in the 4×400-metre relay.
Timothy describes the track as offering “an incredible sense of freedom and a complete mental reset.” The absolute focus and mental toughness required on the starting blocks, he says, translate directly into the composure needed in high-pressure criminal and regulatory matters.
As Timothy puts it, his passion for the track “has no expiry date.”
