Remembering Tim Hancock | Haldanes

It is with deep sorrow that Haldanes announces the passing of our esteemed colleague and senior consultant in the Intellectual Property team, Tim Hancock. Tim passed away peacefully, leaving behind a profound legacy within our firm and the wider legal profession.

Tim arrived in Hong Kong in 1980, dedicating over forty years of full-time practice to the region as a Solicitor and Notary Public (since 1988). Throughout his distinguished career, he frequently handled highly complex patent, trademark, and copyright disputes that had shaped local jurisprudence.

Beyond his practice at Haldanes, Tim was deeply committed to advancing the legal sector. He served as a Council Member of the Hong Kong Group of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) from 1990, leading the organisation as President between 2009 and 2015. He also contributed his expertise for many years as a Council Member of the Hong Kong Society of Notaries.

To those who worked alongside him, Tim was much more than an exceptional lawyer; he was a generous mentor, a supportive colleague, and a true gentleman whose kindness and humour brightened our offices.

The partners and staff at Haldanes extend our heartfelt sympathies to Tim’s family and friends. We stand with them in honouring the memory of a remarkable man who gave so much to the law and to those around him.

For those who wish to share their memories, you are welcome to leave your thoughts in Tim’s memorial book here.
