L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts (supported by Van Cleef & Arpels), is hosting its most ambitious presentation to date at its Hong Kong campus in K11 MUSEA titled “Precious Coral, from Curiosity to Treasures.” Running from May 23 to October 11, 2026, the exhibition brings together approximately 120 exceptional pieces—including rare jewelry creations, antique sculptures, historical artifacts, and natural specimens—loaned from prestigious global institutions such as Italy’s Coral Museum – Liverino Collection and Taiwan’s Chii Lih Coral Museum.
The curated showcase explores the multi-faceted history and cultural significance of precious deep-sea coral across three distinct thematic chapters. The first section, focusing on biology and gemology, dispels centuries-old misconceptions that coral is a plant or stone by clarifying its identity as a slow-growing deep-sea marine animal living hundreds of meters below the surface. The second section highlights craftsmanship, showcasing the specialized tools, raw branches, and intricate carving techniques required to shape this delicate organic material, which ranks only 3 to 3.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. The final section traces the global history and cultural exchange of precious coral, illustrating how it was traded across ancient maritime routes to serve as protective talismans, imperial rank indicators in China, and high jewelry masterpieces across Europe and Asia. Co-curated by gemologists and art historians, the exhibition offers free admission to the public alongside interactive workshops, live carving demonstrations, and guided tours in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

As NAMOC’s inaugural national thematic exhibition dedicated specifically to young and middle-aged artists, the event centers on the guiding principle of shou zheng chuang xin (uprightness and innovation), aiming to foster emerging talent, inspire artistic creativity, and discover visionaries who embody the contemporary spirit.
Out of over 2,600 submitted works gathered across the country, a multi-tiered panel of experts selected approximately 150 representative pieces across four main thematic chapters: “Tradition and Translation,” “Crossover and Integration,” “Conception and Theme,” and “Language and Material.” The exhibition features diverse artistic formats—including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, new media, and mixed media—combining recent NAMOC acquisitions, curator recommendations, and national submissions. The showcase reinterprets traditional Chinese aesthetic heritage through modern visual logic, translating ancient cultural wisdom into accessible contemporary art. Prepared by a youth-led curatorial team, the project establishes a sustainable annual platform for academic exchange, talent cultivation, and public aesthetic education, reflecting the energetic creative force of China’s next generation of artists.

(4) Inaugural National Museum of China Opens Exhibition of 53 Revolutionary Art Masterpieces

The “People • Monument—Exhibition of Classic Artworks from the National Museum of China Collection” officially opened in Central Hall No. 1 of the National Museum of China (NMC). Timed to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 90th anniversary of the Long March victory, the exhibition curates 53 revolutionary historical masterpieces, comprising 20 large-scale paintings and 33 sculptures or sculptured sets, to illustrate the centuries-long bond between the party and the Chinese people.
Curator Wu Shuang noted that since the 1950s, state-organized initiatives led by the NMC have preserved a treasure trove of artworks capturing China’s modern revolutionary journey. The spatial design divides the hall into two chronological streams: high-impact paintings mounted along the walls and dynamic sculptures positioned in the central hall. Featured paintings include Hou Yimin’s 1976 oil canvas Mao Zedong and the Anyuan Miners, depicting the early revolutionary spark among working-class masses, alongside Zhan Jianjun’s 1959 monument-style masterpiece Five Heroes on Mount Langya, which fuses heroic figures into jagged mountain geography. The sculpture section displays historical scale models of the Monument to the People’s Heroes reliefs, depictions of wartime youth groups, and contemporary modern scenes such as 2008 Wenchuan earthquake rescue efforts, reflecting the evolving spirit of national solidarity across generations.
