Security notice: Fraudulent Emails Impersonating Haldanes

Haldanes has been made aware that fraudulent emails disguised as cease-and-desist letters are currently circulating. These communications falsely claim to originate from our firm and are targeting multiple local businesses in Hong Kong.

Summary of the Issue

Falsely representing to be one of our lawyers, the sender used various Gmail accounts to send phishing emails, which stated that Haldanes is representing a property company regarding alleged copyright infringement on the business’s website or social media page. Claiming protection under Hong Kong copyright laws and the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the scam demands the removal of content within seven days and instructs targets to download an attached file containing full evidence, which serves as the malicious payload.
